Dr. Navodita began Yoga at the age of 5 at home. She took up Yoga as a co-curricular activity in boarding school at Welham Girls’ School at the age of nine. She loved Yoga and grew up with these practices. She represented her school in several national and international Yoga demonstrations. She enjoyed Yoga so much that she did Yoga for almost four hours a day. At the age of fifteen only, she was selected to represent school and get trained at RamamaniIyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune which was established by Shri B.K.S. Iyengar.

Thereafter, Navodita continued to teach Yoga at Hare Ram Hare Krishna Mandir in New York when she was vacationing for six months. She taught Yoga while she was working with NDTV and anchored a show SehatkaYog. She was also deputed to teach Yoga to students of MeyharBhasin Grooming Academy, a finishing school in New Delhi. She gave demonstrations on Yoga at SAARC Gymnastics held at Allahabad in 1998. She continued teaching Yoga at Cardiff during her postgraduation at Cardiff Yoga Studio.

Navodita went on to learn Reiki, Art of Living and Buddhist meditation. She was recently honoured by DevAntarrashtriyaYog Kendra, Geeta Nagar, Kanpur. She teaches Yoga and conducts summer and winter camps for women and children in Kanpur.

Media Education

Dr. Navodita began her career as a production-assistant in NDTV. She gained prominence as a reporter for the show ‘Good Morning India’which aired on STAR Plus channel covering fashion, campus and fitness segments. She went on to report and produce news bulletins for NDTV 24x7 and NDTV India news channels. Her primary interests were weather, city and lifestyle beats where she anchored ‘What’s On’ for Breakfast News on NDTV 24x7. She featured among top 5 anchors in the magazine ‘Platform’.

Navodita went on to do her Masters from Cardiff University’s School of Journalism, Media and Culture. While at Cardiff, she was a radio jockey (RJ) for Radio Cardiff, 98.7 FM, a community radio station. She wrote regularly for the student newspaper ‘GairRhydd’on politics, environment and lifestyle. She went on to do her Ph.D. from IGNOU’s (Indira Gandhi National Open University) School of Journalism & New Media Studies with a Doctoral Fellowship in her first year. Her primary research was on the topic ‘Media Coverage of Elections and Voting Behaviour: An Analysis of ALokSabha Constituency in Kanpur’ where she conducted a survey in Kanpur Dehat (AkbarpurLokSabha constituency).

She has participated in various national and international conferences and workshops. She continues to train and research on subjects like media, gender and education. She currently teaches journalism at a premiere media institute in Kanpur. You can find some of her work here .
